About

ARTconnects is a workshop based award-winning initiative created in 2017 by Salma Zulfiqar BEM, an International Artist and Human Rights Campaigner. Following her invaluable humanitarian experience of working with the United Nations on rights and development issues in Afghanistan, Africa, Asia and The Middle East, Salma has transformed her artistic skills and advocacy experience towards empowering refugee and marginalised women  and youth across the globe.

ARTconnects also delivers educational and diversity workshops for youth  in schools, universities and for corporate clients.

Since the Covid-19 Pandemic the project has expanded online and is educating on equality, diversity, climate change  and mental wellbeing for marginalised communities and youth in particular. Workshops and content is licensed to ARTconnects.

In 2023, Salma Zulfiqar was appointed the British Empire Medal  for services to the Arts and Education in King Charles III Birthday Honours.

In the same year she received the British Citizen Award and in 2022 Salma Zulfiqar  was presented with the U.K. Prime Minister's prestigious Points of Lights Award in recognition of her 'exceptional service'

Salma Zulfiqar was also voted one of the most influential women from the UK and received the national Rising Star Diversity Award powered by The Sunday Times in 2019.

Testimonials

“Having a space where one is able to unload, feel inspired and inspire others through conversation and art is a great way of initiating social change and positive influence...I think that this is particularly good for vulnerable women who may have a lot of suppressed feeling and thoughts due to personal life experiences.”

S.Ali, Womens Aid, UK

"This is highly commendable work’’

Caroline Dinenage MP
Former Minister of State for Digital and Culture, UK.

" I really enjoyed being able to meet

people online living in the developing world as I had never experienced anything like this, I believe that it's an experience that would benefit so many people to feel like they need to do more for the planet to help groups directly affected. I also found the experience very calming, it felt like a positive thing for my mental health."

Amelia, University Student UK/ARTconnects Participant
